Engaging Children

as Lifelong Learners

Supporting children with learning strategies, building resilience and having fun

I help children learn and grow as unique, whole individuals and nurture their developmental foundations in education.

Within the Wiscomb Method, I meet children where they are and apply a wealth of teaching experience and educational techniques to tailor lessons that support their individual needs within a heart-based approach.

I am passionate about supporting children to discover their abilities, through academics, creativity and interpersonal skills, and helping them develop strategies to meet their challenges.

I nurture children to learn how to learn, to approach new concepts, work through lessons and enjoy new plateaus of accomplishment. I want children to develop confidence and joy in their journey as lifelong learners.

During the pandemic, I have a simple and clear commitment: for my students to feel connected and supported through this unprecedented experience. I help children “lock in their interest rate” and engage their natural curiosity and motivation to learn, to express and expand their sense of possibility.

In the past year, I turned my computer screen into an engaging theater for teaching, and helped my students achieve and succeed. They often laughed their way through the challenges of new material and developed the presence of mind to be able to learn skills online and present their work to an online audience. They learned that they can in fact, do hard things and feel great about their accomplishments.

Every child has the potential to succeed in skill development, to cultivate confidence, engage through a positive, productive attitude, extend focus, and find a healthy awareness of themselves as creators.

And it can be fun.

Embedded in my lessons are strategies for helping students develop resilience, persistence and practicing patience with themselves in the learning process. I use humor and a warmhearted, relational approach that helps students keep a light, upbeat tone in their sessions.

Why?

I believe children are here to live their precious and unique purpose. Children are more receptive to learning and being focused, when a sense of ease, acceptance and belonging becomes an integral part of the “learning space.”

Children need more than practice and repetition to learn, they require a supportive learning environment filled with expressive opportunities to apply their skills, be heard, and meaningfully participate in their learning community.

Tutoring

I specialize in individualized, inquiry based learning for children from kindergarten to sixth grade.

I help students improve their skills and inspire new learning to help them emerge successfully through the pandemic.

I work with you, as parents to learn more about your child’s needs, identify specific skills and areas to improve.

I offer tutoring year-round, including the summer.

Community of Learners

Education happens within the individual and is applied in the community.

I encourage appropriate social skills and online manners with my students. Each child gets a chance to ask questions, present their work and respond to teacher prompts.
